Poland records 22nd case of mad cow disease
Poland recorded a new case of mad cow disease on Friday, the 22nd discovered in a cow since tests began in 2001, a chief government veterinarian said.
“I can confirm we found a new case of the disease,” chief veterinarian Krzysztof Jazdzewski said. “We are not seriously concerned. Out of 1.28 million cows tested, this is only the 22nd case.”
Mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is a brain-wasting disease first identified in Britain in 1986. The human form of the disease, contracted through eating tainted meat, is fatal.
