Histrionic Personality Disorder Introduction
Psychotherapy to modify character structure is the treatment of choice for patients with histrionic personality disorder, and the technique of these treatments rests on individualized case formulation. After a brief description of the diagnosis of histrionic personality disorder, examples of formulation prototypes as linked to treatment techniques are given. The approach is integrative, both in the sense of helping the patient form a more developed identity out of prior contradictions in self-image and in the sense of combining optimum technique combinations from psychodynamic, interpersonal, and cognitive-behavioral points of view.
